14 November 2024
November started with a bang as we were kindly invited to be involved in an incredible
community event run by our friends at Sheepwash Farm. We were so grateful to have the
opportunity to join the Whittington Community Bonfire and Fireworks Event and went full
throttle into planning our part in it. The annual celebration is led by Farmer Rob (what a guy!)
and proceeds are distributed to local charities and groups, one of which was us!
Our team assembled and got to work on setting up our stand as the start time began to
‘crepe’ up on us! We were given the role of chief pancake makers and face painters –
spreading joy and sweetness to all. Big thanks to Grandad Dave who made our sparkling
sign and three cheers to Emma who went above and beyond: climbing on top of our
container to put up the sign. We fired up the griddle to offer quick-fire crepes, warming the
hearts and bellies of our customers. The queue grew fast, but our newly appointed chefs
Dee, Sophie and Tont were unphased – flipping fast and handing over to Lou on toppings.
Despite us getting to grips with our new role, all the customers were so kind and patient. We
were all so pleased to be contributing to such a wonderful community event.
Meanwhile, our creative crew were on hand (and brush!) offering glowing neon face paints
and tattoos to all the charming children who came along. This was also so popular, and we
loved seeing all the smiling faces as they left our stand. Another fantastic job by Emma,
Emily and Laura. Not forgetting our reason for attending, Rachael and Lizzie were on money
duty – making sure we were growing our pot for future school funds.
The backdrop to this all was an enormous glowing volcano-like bonfire and skies lit up with
magical fireworks. We all had so much fun and were so thankful to experience the
community spirit. It was an event we’ll all remember, remember for a very long time!
Our biggest thanks to Sheepwash Farm – alongside funds raised by the stall on the night,
we also received a donation from the event organisers to benefit our PTFA. Overall, we
raised an incredible £1000! Now we’re all fired up and ready for the next one.
