The Staffordshire Schools Multi Academy Trust provides a broad and balanced curriculum for children from 3 to 11 years of age. Our Curriculum follows the new statutory 2014 curriculum guidelines. Initially the children will follow an Early Years Curriculum, then the National Curriculum which applies to children from Year 1 upwards. Primary school children pass through the Early Years and the National Curriculum Key Stages 1 and 2.

The National Curriculum gives a framework for learning in all of the curriculum subject areas through Programmes of Study which are set out to show the teaching and learning objectives and expected outcomes.

Detailed Schemes of Work in all subjects, in line with the Early Years Learning Goals and Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2 National Curriculum requirements, ensure continuity of education in all curricular areas. Through subject-based and cross-curricular activities and tasks we encourage children to learn from practical experiences in a caring and structured environment.

Curriculum Intent Statement

We have created a curriculum that is ambitious and designed to give all our children, particularly the most disadvantaged, the knowledge and cultural capital they need to succeed. Our curriculum allows our children to gain knowledge as well as the skills they need for future education and later life. Our aim at The Howard Primary is to get all our children ‘high school ready’ and equip them with the skills they need to be citizens of the future.

Our ethos is for all children within our care to be proficient in reading, writing, maths and technology before they leave us. To achieve this we have worked to create a curriculum that also extends beyond the academic and develops their interests and skills. Through carefully planned schemes of work we provide awe and wonder for our children and try to inspire them to be the best they can be. We believe that high attainment and attitude to learning go hand in hand.

Our lessons focus on 12 key learning intents that we believe showcase what an exceptional learner looks like within our school. By following these skill sets, working with local stakeholders and the wider community and with the other schools in our academy; we enrich the children’s education to achieve these intentions.

Our school motto is Believe and Achieve. This sits at the heart of our curriculum as we strive to develop our children’s characters - their resilience, independence, creativity and tolerance of others. By focusing on their character, we set them up with the belief that they can be whatever they want to be.
