As part of their topic on volcanoes, Class 2 got creative this week and they were learning what makes a volcano erupt. In pairs, children had to design and make their own erupting volcano and the results were pretty spectacular. Firstly children had design and make the cone. As you can see from the pictures there were some interesting designs. Secondly, the children had to add bicarbonate of soda to a small plastic bottle. This was then covered by the cone. Finally the children had to make a solution of vinegar, food colouring and washing up liquid which was added to the plastic bottle to create the 'reaction'. There was great excitement as the volcanoes erupted and sent lava shooting out
