Our History Intent

At The Staffordshire Schools Multi Academy Trust, our History curriculum has been carefully designed to develop the children’s understanding of the key historical concepts;

  • continuity and change
  • cause and consequence
  • similarity, difference and significance

These are interwoven across both key stages with a focus on children being able to use them to make connections, draw contrasts, analyse trends, frame historically-valid questions and create their own structured accounts, including written narratives and analyses.

Love.Respect.Friendship

By the end of Key Stage Two children will have been introduced to and researched local history, events beyond living memory, the lives of significant individuals, British history beyond 1066, earliest civilizations and a non-European society which contrasts with British History.

Geography Intent

At The Staffordshire Schools Multi Academy Trust, our Geography curriculum enables our children to become competent in the geographical skills needed to collect, analyse and communicate with a range of data gathered through experiences of fieldwork that deepen their understanding of geographical processes. With high quality teaching and resources children are taught to interpret a range of sources of geographical information, including maps, diagrams, globes, aerial photographs and Geographical Information Systems (GIS)  as well as communicate geographical information in a variety of ways, including through maps, numerical and quantitative skills and writing at length.

By the end of Key Stage Two our pupils will have studied processes that influence weather and climates, mountains, volcanoes & earthquakes, lakes & rivers, towns & cities, natural resources, food & farming, habitats and trade. There is also a strong emphasis on geographical facts, with the children being able to name and locate zones around the world, hot and cold regions, continents and oceans as well as human and physical features of the four countries of the UK.
