1 October 2019
The early May Day bank holiday will be moved back four days next year to coincide with the 75th anniversary of VE Day. VE Day - or Victory in Europe Day - is marked on 8 May and commemorates the Allies accepting the surrender of Nazi Germany in the Second World War.
The early May bank holiday in 2020 will move from Monday 4 May to Friday 8 May. Business Secretary Greg Clark announced this change on 7th June 2019, and is to enable people to pay tribute to those who served in one of the most significant events in our country's history.
Therefore school will be closed on Friday 8th May 2020 for the bank holiday and NOT Monday 4th May 2020 as previously advertised.
